Just read that "The United Nations declared 2010 to be the International Year of Biodiversity. It is a celebration of life on earth and of the value of biodiversity for our lives. The world is invited to take action in 2010 to safeguard the variety of life on earth: biodiversity." In the Haskell County, Kansas I have identified over 80 species of birds that live here or visit during migrations. I had no idea the biodiversity was as great as it is until I started to observe and keep track of the various species. Perhaps the best way to celebrate biodiversity in 2010 is to become more aware of the life around us. Get out your binoculars, take a walk in the countryside or a drive around the county. Learn the names of local plants, insects and animals. Rejoice in the variety around us.ue of biodiversity for our lives.
