Seeing Invisible People

Most of us walk through life seeing only what we want to see. I will never forget the article I read on invisible people. The definition of an invisible person is someone we don't want to see, not someone we cannot see: homeless, beggers, etc. My brother Jim chose to be an invisible person for a while. He disappeared from family gatherings and could not be found. Out of his experience as an invisible person, he learned to reach out with love and care for other invisible people. He also learned to live more simply and appreciate each day more fully. He had the gift of seeing things that others missed and walked past. Jim died last week, but he left me the challenge of noticing the invisible people around me. He also challenged me to consider how to tread more lightly on the Earth and embrace a more simple lifestyle.
